Help keep your PTO strong

At our last meeting of the year -- 7 p.m. May 21 -- we'll elect officers for the 2013-2014 school year. We'd love to see paying members take on a more active role, whether by being nominated for an office or just voting. Here officer job descriptions and approximate time committments for each:
President provides overall direction and guidance for PTO activities and ensures committees and the PTO are accomplishing goals; solicits ideas, establishes agendas and presides at general and executive meetings; and ensures the PTO follows its bylaws.Time Commitment: approximately 10 hours per month
Vice President assists the president and other officers as needed; attends all general PTO meetings and, when necessary, Anne Arundel County School Board meetings; performs duties of the president in her/his absence; and serves as committee chair and/or committee volunteer when required. Time Commitment: approximately one and a half hours per month
Treasurer works with other PTO board members to establish and finalize the annual PTO budget; writes checks for reimbursement of PTO-funded activities; deposits money; balances monthly checking and savings accounts; presents treasurer's report at monthly meetings; files quarterly taxes. Time Commitment: approximately five hours/month
Secretary takes accurate minutes at each general and executive board meeting and distributes them to board members; keeps original version of the current bylaws, with amendments properly entered; circulates attendance sheet for each meeting; keeps copies of all minutes with copies of agendas and attendance sheet for those meetings. Time Commitment: approximately five hours per month.
